The Effects of Cognitive Therapy Exercise on the Affected Upper Extremity Function and Activities of Daily Living for Stroke Patient

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of cognitive therapy exercise on the affected upper extremity function and activities of daily living for stroke patients.

Methods: The hospital care of rehabilitation specialist C in Gwangju due to the 11 stroke people hospitalized were chosen as subjects. The study design was applied one group pretest post test design. To analyse before and after treatment assessed upper extremity was using WMFT(Wolf Motor Function Test), activities of daily living was using AMPS(Assessment of Motor and Process Skills). For effects of intervention collected data were analysed using SPSS for Window(ver.18.0) program. The statistical significance level was .05.

Results: The results of the study was presented cognitive therapeutic exercise for upper extremity function was measured before and after in WMFT 49.5 to 54.5 with an average score there was statistically significant differences, activities of daily living was measured before and after in AMPS the motor skill was .94 to 1.55 process skill was .82 to 1.28 statistically significant difference.

Conclusion : Cognitive therapeutic exercise on upper extremity has better effect on affected upper extremity function and ADL performance ability of patients with stroke. Further more it is deemed that fundamental data applied to cognitive therapeutic exercise.
